Power of Art

In 2006 the BBC produced the documentary series – ‘Power of Art’ – written and presented by the eminent TV historian professor Simon Schama.  Each of the eight one hour episodes examined the biography of the following artists and their key work.

Mr. Schama’s artwork selection of only 8 pieces of art is very wise for we see some of Art’s crowning achievements in the arena of the two grand movements:

• Immanent Compassion - Cavavaggio's "David with the Head of Goliath"

• Social Angst - Turner's "The Salve Ship"

• Transdencent Beauty - Bernini's Ecstacy of Saint Teressa

• Trancendent Wisdom - Rothko's Black on Maroon
